Build Around Three Core Knits
A strong knitwear wardrobe starts with pieces that work across seasons: a fine merino crewneck, a polo knit, and a heavier cardigan or shawl-collar sweater. Each should add texture without making the outfit feel bulky.
The Knitwear Rotation
- Fine gauge: merino or cotton-silk knits for shirts and tailoring
- Midweight: crewnecks and polos for smart casual dressing
- Heavyweight: cardigans and textured sweaters for colder days
Fit Matters More Than Thickness
The shoulder should sit cleanly, the waist should skim the body, and the hem should land around the trouser waistband. Oversized knits can work, but only when the rest of the outfit is controlled.
Color, Care, And Styling
Start with navy, charcoal, oatmeal, cream, and dark brown. Fold knits instead of hanging them, use a fabric comb when needed, and layer finer pieces under blazers, field jackets, or overcoats for a sharp but relaxed finish.
